Weekend Sightseeing

On Saturday I had the pleasure of visiting Taipei with Nana and Coco’s family. I started the day by having the opportunity to watch and even join in during the beginning of their Kung Fu lesson. It was interesting to watch a Kung Fu lesson in person for the first time! After the class finished we headed towards Taipei University to have a look around and on the way we stopped for Taipei’s famous bubble tea in Gong Gwan. I was amazed to see a line that was so long it was in the way of traffic!

We continued on to Jiufen which was a 1 hour drive from Taipei city. Jiufen was an amazing old mining town with beautiful views and Japanese style architecture. The town has now transformed into a tourist destination. Since it was raining we  didn’t have a great view of the sea. Instead we sat down and had a warm cup of Taro ball sweet soup (Yu Yuan)

Since it was cold, dark and raining they decided to take me to the Taiwan palace museum. As soon as we entered the girls took me to their favourite exhibit. I was surprised to see it was a jade cabbage!! My favourite exhibit was the miniature wooden carvings. They are so precise and small it takes great talent to create each masterpiece!

On Sunday Danyu and Paceion’s family invited me to go hiking up Yang Ming Shan with them. The sun was shining bright for the first time since I had arrived in Taiwan so we were very lucky! As we were hiking, we came across beautiful scenery and very steep stairs. When we climbed the final stairs we were facing a stunning sight of grass land. It was the perfect weather as you could see the light reflect of the snow flowers. After we made our way back down the mountain we took our shoes off and placed our feet in the hot springs. It was the perfect end for our hiking trip!
